Data Deletion
Request deletion of your account and personal data.
What Gets Deleted
When you request account deletion, we will permanently remove:
- Your account profile (name, phone number)
- Authentication tokens and OTP history
- Your expense data and comments
- Your group memberships
- Your settlement records
- Your activity history
What May Be Retained
In some cases, certain data may be retained in anonymized form:
- Group expenses you created: The expense record may remain visible to other group members for their accounting purposes, but your personal information will be replaced with "Deleted User".
- Settlements involving other users: Other users' records of settlements with you may be retained in anonymized form.
- Legal obligations: Data required for legal compliance, fraud prevention, or dispute resolution may be retained for up to 90 days after deletion.
How to Request Deletion
Option 1: In the App
- Open SharePay
- Go to Profile tab
- Tap Settings
- Scroll to Delete Account
- Confirm deletion
Option 2: Via Email
Send an email to privacy@thesharepay.com with:
- Subject: "Account Deletion Request"
- The phone number associated with your account
- Confirmation that you want all data deleted
Processing Time
- In-app deletion: Processed immediately. Data removed within 30 days.
- Email requests: We will verify your identity and process the request within 7 business days. Data removed within 30 days of verification.
You will receive a confirmation email once your data has been fully deleted.
Important Notes
- Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. You cannot recover your data after deletion.
- If you have unsettled balances, we recommend settling them before deleting your account.
- After deletion, you can create a new account with the same phone number, but none of your previous data will be available.
