Terms of Service
Last updated: March 1, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the SharePay mobile application ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Description of Service
SharePay is an expense-tracking and splitting application that allows users to:
- Create groups and track shared expenses
- Split expenses among group members (equally, by percentage, or custom amounts)
- View balances and simplified debts
- Record settlements between users
- Track expense history and activity
SharePay is not a payment processor or financial institution. The Service helps track and calculate who owes what — actual money transfers happen outside the app between users directly.
3. Account Registration
- You must provide a valid phone number to create an account.
- You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and device.
- You must provide accurate and complete information.
- You may not create accounts for others without their consent.
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction) to use the Service.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
- Create fraudulent expenses, groups, or settlements
- Harass, abuse, or harm other users
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts or our systems
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
- Use the Service to transmit malware, spam, or other harmful content
- Scrape, mine, or extract data from the Service without permission
5. User Content
You retain ownership of any content you create in the Service (expense descriptions, group names, comments, etc.). By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, display, and process your content solely to provide the Service.
You are responsible for the accuracy of expense amounts and descriptions you enter. SharePay does not verify or guarantee the accuracy of any user-entered financial data.
6. Groups and Shared Data
- When you join a group, your name and expense activity within that group are visible to all group members.
- Group creators can add or remove members.
- If you leave a group, your previously shared expense data may still be visible to remaining members for record-keeping purposes.
- Share invite links responsibly — anyone with a valid invite link can join the group.
7. Financial Disclaimer
SharePay is an expense tracking tool, not a financial service.
- We do not process, hold, or transfer money.
- Settlement records in the app are informational only — they reflect that users have agreed a debt is resolved.
- We are not responsible for any disputes about actual payments between users.
- SharePay does not provide financial, tax, or legal advice.
- Balance calculations are based on user-entered data and may not reflect actual debts owed.
8. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, logo, code, and content (excluding user content), is owned by SharePay and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our written permission.
9. Termination
- You may delete your account at any time through the app or by contacting us.
- We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms.
- Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.
- Data deletion upon account termination is handled per our Privacy Policy.
10. Service Availability
We strive to keep SharePay available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control. We are not liable for any loss resulting from Service downtime.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- SharePay is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind.
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
- We are not responsible for any financial losses arising from inaccurate expense data entered by users.
- Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid to use the Service (if any) in the 12 months preceding the claim.
12. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India.
